Holidays are your chance to press the reset button.
A chance to re-balance your nervous system, reconnect with your body and understand what truly makes you happy. But how do you translate that newfound well-being into your everyday life, once you get back home?
First of all focus on a few things at the time…
The biggest mistake I see is trying to squeeze too much into your back-to-work routine, which in the end causes additional stress and damps your motivation.
1. Learn to take breaks to recharge yourself and regulate your nervous system.
You don’t need to be idle: you can take a movement break, a stretching break, a music break, a nap, or simply close your eyes and slow down for a couple of minutes to avoid overload. Basically, allow yourself to get out of the flight and fight state at leat for a while.
2. Schedule only ONE fitness, yoga or Pilates class in your diary and make it non-negotiable.
One hour a week is manageable and you can then add on when you have the time.
3. Prioritize your sleep.
( especially if you are over 40). Sleep replenishes neurotransmitters like dopamine, helps rebalance your cortisol, and your hunger and fullness hormones. Sacrificing your sleep has a huge ripple effect on both your physical and mental performance.
4. Make time to do things you enjoy.
With age and growing responsibilities it is easy to fall into a routine of things we “have to” do and to forget our inner selves. But our souls need nourishment too!
5. Cook from scratch and transform your meals in rituals.
With a bit of organization, it is possible to create enjoyable and nutritious meals in 15-20 min. Make it a ritual: slow down, lay the table, take time to enjoy it and connect with others.
Work with a coach…
Coaching can make the difference between creating a few fundamental and sustainable healthy habits or being overwhelmed trying to fit in the latest fitness hacks or feel completely discouraged and giving up.
If this sounds like you and you feel that you need support and a strategy to create sustainable lifestyle changes, get in touch. I offer a non-binding and complimentary 30-min appointment to clarify your doubts and offer a mini-assessment to establish if health coaching would be beneficial for you.
